Stories from the road
Entegra Coach owners know that the journey can be just as enjoyable as the destination. For this month’s feature, we talked to Entegra Coach owners who wouldn’t travel any other way.
The Stonebergs (John and Flora)
Q: Tell us about yourselves.
We are the only ones of our friends who have ventured into this lifestyle. None of them has ever even seen the inside of a Class A coach, much less one of Entegra Coach's quality. Everyone who enters our coach is amazed at the beauty and quality of it and can understand why we now travel in our "Go-Go Machine." I started an online travel journal for myself, but since we are always getting inquiries about where we've been and where we are going next, I've given the URL out to interested parties (read Flora’s journal at harveyrv.wordpress.com).
From a personal standpoint, we are finding that the RV lifestyle brings a new-found respect for our strengths and capabilities. Before we bought the Entegra Coach, we had gotten quite used to the other’s qualities after 46 years of marriage; but now, we see each other in a new positive light.
I don't know how others embarked on their Entegra Coach lifestyle, but we think the story of how we did is amusing. We saw a used coach on a dealer lot (some other brand!) and remarked on what fun it would be to have one. We did not purchase it and were disappointed when it finally sold. That spoke to us, and John suggested going to the 2012 Hershey RV Show "just to look." So, in September, we took a weekend trip to Hershey. We didn't know the difference between a Class A and a fifth wheel. Total newbies. We started at one end of the show and worked our way to the other. We were about to call it a disappointing day when we came upon the Entegra Coach display. Aha! This is what we were looking for! After learning about the coach, we ended up putting a deposit on a 2013 Aspire DEQ, and were told we had done what we should do … buy our last coach first (but, then again, maybe not)! We have never regretted the decisions made, including floor plan and colors.
Q: Entegra Coach is all about making the journey as great as the destination—what do you love about the journey in your Entegra Coach?
Ease of travel! Having our home and all our things with us, the interesting sights we see along the way, the different people we are meeting, the ability to entertain them easily … the list goes on.
Q: What makes the journey in an Entegra Coach better than traveling any other way?
The ability to travel at our own pace, set our own schedule and change it along the way. Also, the ease of mind in knowing that Entegra Coach stands behind us in case we encounter any problems along the way is great. The comfort of the ride and not being squashed in an airplane seat is priceless! Also being able to use the bathroom when necessary rather than waiting for the next rest stop. We love being able to get a snack or stop at an unexpected scenic spot for a picnic whenever we choose.
Q: What’s your favorite way to enjoy the journey when you travel?
Taking the back roads rather than the main roads is a great way to see America, old and new.
Q: Any stories from the road that you could share with us?
Once, on an overnight stop in Colorado, there was a beautiful coach parked across from us. The couple was out walking their dog, and we struck up a conversation with them and complimented them on their coach. They gave us a tour and confessed that it wasn't their coach, but that the husband was the driver of the coach for the owners, who turned out to be the Def Leppard rock band! The band was on hiatus, so the driver flew his wife in for a week's vacation. When we met them, they were on their way to pick up the band to begin tour.
The Joplins (Noel and Lois)
Q: Tell us a little about yourselves.
We are fulltime RVers—so our Entegra Coach is our home. We have no stick and brick house. What a wonderful way to live and see all the wonders of this country! Also, our children and grandchildren are in several different states, so we can take our home on wheels to visit and not inconvenience them. This works perfectly for us.
Q: Entegra Coach is all about making the journey as great as the destination—what do you love about the journey in your Entegra Coach?
Our Entegra Coach lets us travel down the road seeing sights from the panoramic windshield while taking great pictures as we go. The quietness of the ride makes the journey so much more enjoyable.
Q: What makes the journey in an Entegra Coach better than traveling any other way?
Our coach is a luxurious way to travel with all the conveniences of home. We appreciate the washer/dryer, fireplace, dishwasher, etc. We can thoroughly enjoy all the amenities while seeing the country at the same time.
Q: What’s your favorite way to enjoy the journey when you travel?
We love seeing the sights, meeting new friends and enjoying the beautiful resorts and campgrounds.
Q: Any stories from the road that you could share with us?
We went on a Glacier National Park raft ride (see photos) right after a trip through California, Oregon and Washington. We were having a great raft ride and had just stopped to have lunch on the river bank. When we waded into the river to get back in the rafts, I thought ‘this river is really cold!’ Little did I know then that I would really get to test the water a little farther down stream.
When we hit some of the rougher water, we somehow got turned sideways in the river. Well, before we could get straightened out, the back of the raft where I was sitting hit a big outcropping of rocks on my side of the raft. I don't know how fast that raft was going when it hit the rock, but it ejected me from the raft like I was shot from a slingshot! I didn't even think about how cold the water was, all I could think about was getting back to the surface.
They finally caught up to me and pulled me back into the raft. I was able to catch my hat as it floated by and even though my sunglasses were skewed on my head I managed to save them along with the paddle! All in all it was a great trip—and we get to laugh about it now.
