A Lifetime of Adventure Leading to Full-Time Traveling

For Jeri and Kenny Saulsbury, traveling in their coach is not just a phase—it’s a passion that has spanned over 40 years. Long before they owned their first motorhome, they were seasoned campers, starting with tents before moving into the world of fifth wheels. After 15 years of enjoying fifth-wheel adventures, they purchased their first motorhome in 2019. However, it wasn’t until four years ago that they fully embraced the full-time lifestyle—at least for half of the year.

Their journey to this lifestyle wasn’t just about chasing adventure; it was deeply rooted in financial discipline. Inspired by Jeri’s parents, who diligently saved and upgraded to four motorhomes over their lifetime, the Saulsburys set up a habit early on—paying themselves first. With just $25 from each paycheck, slowly increasing over time, they built the financial foundation that eventually led them to purchase their dream motorhome: an Entegra Cornerstone. Now on their third motorhome (and second Entegra), they continue to follow in the footsteps of Jeri’s parents, living their dream on the road.

Like many, their lives once revolved around raising their two kids, maintaining a home, and grinding through Monday-to-Friday workweeks, leaving weekends for chores and the occasional camping trip. They always loved traveling, but work kept them tied to their Texas home. That all changed in 2018 when they transitioned to 100% remote work, finally freeing them from the office. Then, in 2020, Kenny took early retirement—opening the door for traveling at their leisure.

New Places, New Faces, and Unforgettable Experiences

Since hitting the road, the Saulsburys have found one of the greatest joys of traveling—meeting incredible people from all walks of life. Whether it’s at a campsite, a local eatery, or a social media connection, they’ve built friendships that transcend state lines. Social media has become their bridge to staying in touch, sharing experiences, and inspiring others to consider this lifestyle.

Their adventures are as much about the places as they are about the people. They thrive on exploring new areas, trying foods they can’t find back in Texas or Florida, and experiencing local culture. From dive bars to high-end restaurants, they make it a point to indulge in local flavors. Harvest Hosts stays have been among their favorite experiences, allowing them to overnight at vineyards, alpaca farms, equestrian breeders, and even unique locations like John Schneider’s Place in Louisiana.

Some of their most memorable travels include Niagara Falls, lobster boats in Maine, and whale watching off the coast of Guerrero Negro, Mexico. Looking ahead to 2024, they’re gearing up for a lengthy 10,000-mile loop across the West, beginning in March. Their journey will include:

  •  Badlands National Park
  •  Mount Rushmore
  • Yellowstone & Glacier National Park
  • Washington, Oregon & California
  • The Grand Canyon
  • Albuquerque Balloon Festival (October 2024)

For Jeri and Kenny, the beauty of America is best experienced through its landscapes, historic landmarks, and yes—lots of diesel pumps!

Life as a Digital Nomad: Work, Travel, and Planning Ahead

Jeri still works full-time from their Entegra Coach, balancing a structured work schedule while traveling. Monday through Friday, she sets up her laptop and 35" monitor, ensuring she stays productive from anywhere. This makes planning critical—they book campsites 6 to 12 months in advance, ensuring reliable Wi-Fi and an open sky for their Starlink internet.

Their travel style is deliberate:

  • Shorter stays (1-2 weeks) allow them to see more of the country.
  • Weekend relocations of 3-6 hours ensure they arrive in daylight to explore before Monday.
  • Evening walks in campgrounds and local outings add balance to their workweek.
  • Limited dining out—one meal at each stop during the week, plus a special weekend meal.

They’ve also learned to embrace spontaneity. Whether stopping for cows crossing the road in New Mexico or squeezing past tight turns with 18-wheelers barreling by, life on the road is never dull. They also love the humor found in while traveling the country—funny bumper stickers, quirky campground signs, and meeting fellow travelers who share their unique experiences.

Finding Balance: Health, Money, and Time

For the Saulsburys, life on the road is about balancing three key factors—health, money, and time. Right now, they have good health and some time, but they’re mindful that money isn’t unlimited. They prioritize making memories while they can because later, they may have more money but less time or health to enjoy it.

Their philosophy? Just DO IT.

For those considering this lifestyle, they recommend starting small: rent an camper for a few weeks, test the waters, and explore remote job options. Smart financial planning—like their habit of diligent saving—can help turn this dream into reality.
